WHAT ARE MUFFLERS AND HOW DO THEY EFFECT PERFORMANCE?

MUFFLERS ARE DESIGNED TO BRING DOWN THE SOUND LEVELS FROM AN ENGINE DEPENDING ON THE DESIGNERS REQUIREMENTS.
IF A CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE QUIEST AND COMFORTABLE, A LARGER OR MORE RESTRICTIVE MUFFLER IS REQUIRED.
TYPICALLY THESE DESIGNS HAVE 3 OR MORE CHAMBERS WITH BAFFLERS AND SCREENS TO CAPTURE SOUNDS.
MODERN STOCK MUFFLERS ARE DESIGNED SO THAT THEY DO NOT RESTRICT THE FLOW OF THE EXHAUST AND STILL ALLOW FOR MAXIMUM POWER AND EFFICIENCY.

AFTERMARKET MUFFLERS

AFTERMARKET MUFFLERS ARE DESIGNED TO MODIFY AND REFINE THE NOTE OF THE EXHAUST, WHILE BRINGING DOWN THE DECIBELS LESS THAN STOCK SYSTEMS.
THESE CAN BE MULTICHAMBERD LIKE STOCK STYLE MUFFLERS, SINGLE CHAMBERED, OR THEY COULD BE FIBERGLASS PACKED TO AID IN SOUND REDUCTION.
TYPICALLY THE LOUDER THE MUFFLER SYSTEM IS, THE LESS REFINED THE QUALITY.

ACTIVE MUFFLERS AND CUTOUTS

ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED EXHAUSTS ARE ALL THE NEW RAGE IN CARS, BUT HOW DO THEY WORK AND WHAT DO THEY EFFECT?
CUTOUTS ARE TYPICALLY VLAVES THE SIZE OF THE EXHAUST PIPE, AND ARE WELDED TO THE EXHAUST AS A SEPARATE CHANNEL FOR EXHAUST TO TRAVEL THROUGH.
THESE PIPES USUALLY "DUMP" THE EXHAUST OUT INSTANTLY WHEN OPEN, AND THROUGH THE MUFFLER SYSTEM WHEN CLOSED.
THESE ARE YOUR CHEAP "INSTANT LOUD" BUTTON MODIFICATIONS, AND THEY DO ALLOW YOU TO HAVE A QUALITY SOUNDING SYSTEM WHEN CLOSED.
ACTIVE MUFFLERS WILL HAVE A VALVE PLACED INSIDE THE MUFFLER, THAT WHEN OPEN, ALLOWS SOME OF THE EXHAUST TO EXIT THE MUFFLER BEFORE ENTERING ALL THE CHAMBERS.
USUALLY IN A 3 CHAMBER SYSTEM THIS VALVE WILL BE IN THE FIRST CHAMBER.
STOCK OR OEM ACTIVE MUFFLERS CAN BE CONTROLLED TO OPEN IN % INCREMENTS BASED ON THE RPM AND LOAD OF THE ENGINE TO MAXIMIZE SOUND QUALITY.

WHAT ARE RESONATORS?

RESONATORS ARE A SUBCLASS OF MUFFLERS, AND TYPICALLY FOCUS MORE ON REMOVING THE HIGH PITCH NOTES FROM THE EXHAUST WHILE NOT REDUCING THE TOTAL VOLUME.
THEY WILL STILL LOWER THE MAXIMUM DECIBELS, BUT THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE WILL BE DEEPER AND LESS HARSH ON THE EARS.
